Kiev, Ukraine

Kiev, the proud capital of Ukraine, survived the invasion of the Mongols, the Second World War and Chernobyl. It is the center of Ukrainian culture, full of theaters, museums, religious sites, modern buildings and ancient ruins. Kiev-Pechora Lavra, founded in 1015, and the Cathedral of St. Sophia, is a World Heritage Site. From the Museum of the Great Patriotic War, topped with a massive statue of the motherland with a great view of the city.
